Introduction to Philosophy: In this course, “What is philosophy?”, “What are the main problems of philosophy?” and “What is the philosophical method?” We will examine your questions. In this course, where we will discuss the main texts of philosophy, students will be acquainted with the depth of philosophical thought.

Philosophy and Science: Philosophy and science are two different disciplines that strive to explain and understand the world. In this course, we will try to understand the common and different aspects of these two disciplines, the nature of the scientific method and the difference between the scientific and pseudo-scientific.

Critical Thinking: What distinguishes right thinking from wrong thinking? How should the distinction between the rational and the irrational be understood? Are humans really rational beings? Why is it not rational to believe in conspiracy theories? In this lesson, we will seek answers to these and similar questions.

Erhan Demircioglu Assoc. Dr.
He completed his undergraduate education at Istanbul Technical University, Department of Management Engineering (2001), and his master’s degree from Boğaziçi University, Department of Philosophy (2005). He received his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh with his thesis “At the Gates of Consciousness: Physicalism and Phenomenal Concepts” (2011). After working as a lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at Middle East Technical University between 2013 and 2015, he moved to the Department of Philosophy at Koç University in 2015, where he still works. He has numerous publications in the fields of philosophy of mind, epistemology and philosophy of language. His book Ghost in the Machine: An Introduction to the Philosophy of the Mind was published in 2021.
