Course Description: This is an introductory course to the visual arts designed to create an appreciation of the vocabulary, media and purposes of the creative process. Students will critically analyse, interpret and evaluate selected works of art. The course presents a survey of the visual elements in arts, including artistic media and techniques and art history from the Pre-historic to the 21st Century.

Course Objectives: This course aims to develop an understanding and appreciation of art, its purpose, and aesthetics as a significant form of human expression, within its social, cultural, and historical context. It also offers a path or means by which the students may approach, understand, and ultimately increase their capability to relate with and enjoy works of art

Learning Outcomes: 

Students successfully completing this course will be able to 

  1. demonstrate understanding of terminology and conventions of visual expression. 
  2. critically interpret and analyze works of art in terms of form and content. 
  3. demonstrate an understanding of art practices, meaning, values, and methods within historical and cultural contexts.

Feyza Ozalp Lecturer
Feyza Ozalp holds a PhD degree in Science of Arts. She has worked at the university level for over 25 years and has been with Koç University since 2017. Her academic interests critical and analytical thinking in arts, philosophy and art education.
