Introduction to the basic concepts of design. Elements of design, point, line, shape, pattern, texture and color. Principles of design, balance, unity/harmony, contrast/similarity, scale/proportion, hierarchy, focus/emphasis, rhythm, space and structure. Studio practice and critique sessions.
Course objectives
Main objective of the course is to teach the basic components of art and design practice. While ideation, presentation, design process will be learned, visual design elements such as drawing, painting, modeling and visual design techniques will be studied.
Learning outcomes
Students successfully completing this course will be able to demonstrate understanding of the essential elements of form and content and those principles that control their organization in composition. They will also acquire visual research skills through a refined visual vocabulary.
Teaching method
The teaching method is based on the “learning-by-doing” paradigm and is realized through studio sessions, assignments and studio critiques. All the practical work is led by lectures.
